Anniversary of CZU Lightning Strikes

A year ago today, we received reports of lightning strikes that had ignited fires in the Santa Cruz mountains. I remember a year ago last night, being awoken by a crazy lightning storm, creating a dramatic display in the sky. Many got up to watch the dramatic display, having no awareness the devastation that was coming.

The fires that ensued were shocking and debilitating, causing devastating losses.

The pictures only reveal a small part of the devastation….Our hearts have been broken.

Feelings of loss are still in many of us as we slowly heal from the trauma and begin to metabolize and digest all that has occurred.

How You Can Help Yourself and Others to Tend to Grief

When loss happens, often all we need is holding and witnessing. Our precious, tender nervous system’s just need connection and love.

Words are not necessary, and can be unhelpful.

There’s nothing to do when you are with the pain and suffering and loss and deep grief.

Simply be present and witness….and listen to your intuition.

Take inspired action when you feel the call.

Many times someone can tell you that they are fine, though just under the surface there is a raging, destructive fire tearing through them.

When a person is disregulated or disassociated due to a past trauma becoming present, the very experience of not being alone in it, can help a person to heal.

If you are suffering, care for yourself… take the time and space to listen to what you need most.

If someone you know is suffering, listen to what they are saying and do what your heart feels moved to do.
